The Blue Bee

The Blue Bee

The title was not made for rhyming purpose. But I have photographed the most unusual bee I have ever seen. So if any of you know what its name, please let me know. I couldn’t stop thinking, is it a new species or not.

It was not easy to accurately capture its color in the afternoon (5 PM)with macro mode.

Here are the challenges I must faced:

1. low light needs flash, using flash in 4cm distance inevitably ruin your picture

2. uncontrollable autofocus system that wanders around on its own.

3. it could fly any time it felt threatened

So I did these:

1. Flash Filter Technique, I used white napkin to reduce flash’s effect on the subject,

2. I put white napkin behind the subject to help autofocus focus on the subject and to give neutral background.

3. I move very slowly, even so it flew away 3 times, but fortunately it came back.

Cute, isn’t?
